Baby's First Bike Race

Tonight Miz V braved the grey skies to check out the Toronto Criterium.

A criterium is a short course closed circuit cycling event run on blocked-off city streets. The Toronto race was run in the St Lawrence Market area, right near Matt's new office. V and I met him after work to check out the race.

Matt wore V in the carrier under his jacket - the weather was a bit too chilled so this arrangement worked well. She's really into "looking" at the moment, so she was facing out so we could yell "BICYCLES" at her whenever the pack raced past. She seemed to take it all in with her now-patented arch look of cool appraisal.

As you can see, the sight of the little miss in her daddy-kangaroo pouch was pretty freaking adorable.

So adorable, in fact, that she drew a lot of attention as we wandered around to watch the cyclists. She attracted paparazzi and shutterbugs throughout the evening, many people taking pictures of her watching the race. She may even end up on the brochure for next year's race!

Ya gotta love a good bike race.

One Month!

We made it! One month and no catastrophes! Go team!

Of course, it helps when the bebe is as ridiculously charming as Miz V. Check out the chipmunk cheeks...wacky! Yet for size and shape she's still right at the 50th percentile. According to her one month check-up, she's thriving. More huzzahs!

New style baby bump

Fortunately, V has taken to the baby-wearing devices with a measure of glee. Good news for my hands - hoping that my back can keep up. Anyway, thought I would update the baby bump video to show what the lump on my belly looks like these days..

La Facture, SVP

Oi! A crazy mix-up with the bill from the hospital. After one day of labor, we settled in for a four-day stay in a private recovery room. When the bill rolled around, we were charged for five days. So the email goes out -

Whither five? OHIP covers delivery, and that's what we were doing the first day.
Response: we put you in a special room.

But we didn't ask for anything special, and the delivery rooms are all private, so what gives?
Response: you told us on the first day you wanted a private room.

But that's when you asked us what kind of room we wanted, and we already know that all delivery rooms are private, etc etc etc.

Our family doctor thought this sounded weird, and suggested we talk to the hospital's patient representative, essentially a consumer advocate. They have sorted out the whole thing and identified the error in the paperwork, so we are back down to the four-day bill, although the billing office hasn't actually modified the invoice yet. We have paid our four days' bill and hope that will settle that.

The billing error aside, we just want everybody to know that our experience at Toronto East General Hospital was superb. The staff was very supportive, the rooms spacious and comfortable, and the food, well, was easily supplemented by a number of good restaurants nearby. The upgrade to a private room was well worth the extra dosh, and we truly appreciate all the caring and support we received through the labor, delivery and recovery.
