V meets the Mango

Matt's buddy Michal and his family came over last weekend for bbq and to hang out. Michal commutes downtown in a Mango velomobile. He brought it by as he's sold advertising for the sides and was applying decals. Matt decided to let V sit at the wheel and start getting a feel for the type of vehicle she has to look forward to when she grows up, given the direction of fuel costs.

V loved it! She sat in it for over twenty minutes, kicking and gurgling and looking around. The narrow recumbent seat was at the same angle as her blue bouncy chair, so she just kept kicking and jiggling.
Doyle was less enthusiastic, and would prefer the Mango not occupy his driveway.

This video shows the Mango and the Kapral family working on the decals. Featured are Michal, his wife Dianne, their older girl Annika and younger girl Lauren. And seated at the controls - Miz V. Note that she has almost kicked off the purple socks Grandma Donna made her

convertible hand splints or cat toys?

My hand braces (aka the blueberry palm prisons) have been retooled so I have options: the thumbs completely covered, or the tips showing. This adaptive measure means I can control how much immobility the braces provide. For now, right thumb is in riot lockdown, while the left thumb enjoys fresh air privileges.

The thumbs now have little caps that are adjusted with velcro. In all, kinda neat design.

Except they make most excellent and exciting cat toys. Sigh.

Doyle Vs The Belly Mice

I awoke this morning to the strangest situation yet.

Around 6 AM, I felt a weird jumping in the belly. Not just kicking or clawing, a jumping. I opened my eyes to see Doyle, the intrepid black cat, standing on top of my belly and stalking the little ripples and kicks that the very active little person was inflicting on the top of the belly. The kicks are now big enough to be visible through my clothes. Doyle must have noticed the squirming, and took it for an exciting hunting opportunity. As the bebe practiced high kicks, Doyle pounced and kneaded. This went on for about five minutes, as I wasn't very awake and kind of surprised so I didn't really want to move. When I finally rolled out of bed and shooed Doyle off, he was quite annoyed that I had ruined the game.
Doyle's been trying to get my belly to mush down to a more comfortable catbed for a few months now, but this was different - he was clearly in stalking mode and believed there were belly mice to be mined in them thar pyjamas.
Wait till he gets a load of the real thing.

Doyle at Play

See Doyle play. This is really a test to see if this blog will let me post short video. The fact I am posting a video of my cat being super cute is irrelevant. Really.
